Diploma Course

Diploma Course in Qualitative Research

This comprehensive diploma program is designed for mid-level researchers ready to transition into a mentorship role for the next generation of social justice researchers. The course is built on a two-phase model, blending intensive, structured learning with a year-long, hands-on research project.

Phase 1: The Intensive Training and Proposal Developing (3 Months)

For the first three months, the participants will engage in 12 intensive sessions, each combining a theoretical lecture with practical exercises. These sessions are designed to move the participants beyond foundational concepts and into the direct application of qualitative research methods. The course also expects participants to be able to apply research knowledge and skills in everyday life with increasing independence. The participants (teams) are expected to work on their own research proposal, applying each new skill immediately as they learn it.

At the end of this course, the participants will be able to  understand the following areas, specifically:

  • Foundations of qualitative research
  • Ethics in human rights and social justice research
  • Research design and methodologies
  • Data collection and analysis techniques
  • Writing and communication strategies for social research
  • Mentoring and pedagogy for emerging researchers
  • Understanding AI tools as research assistants

Phase 2: The Group Research Writing and Mentorship (9 Months)

Following the intensive period, the participants will join a small team to implement the research project they designed in Phase 1. Over nine months, they will put their skills into action by managing a real-world project from start to finish. This phase is supported by continuous mentorship and guidance, helping you navigate real-time challenges.

During this phase, the participants will gain the following skills:

  • Gaining practical skills by managing and executing their research project, from data collection through to final dissemination
  • Work in a supportive, collaborative environment where they can share insights, exchange feedback, and overcome challenges together with their research group
  • Benefit from regular one-on-one and group mentoring sessions to refine their skills and receive guidance that will help bring their project to a successful conclusion.

Upon completion of this 12-month program, the participants will not only be a skilled qualitative researcher but also an empowered mentor, ready to guide young people in using research as a powerful tool for social change.
