    History

    The YCU Research Institute (YRI) was established in 2022 under Yangon Cosmopolitan University (YCU), with support from the Pyin-Nya-Man-Daing (PNMD) Programme. Its creation marked a strategic step toward promoting an independent academic research environment in Myanmar, particularly in the fields of human rights, peace, law and governance.

    In response to the limited availability of independent research opportunities in the country, the YRI  to nurture a new generation of scholars and researchers. Its goal is to establish a sustainable and autonomous research institute by 2026. To this end, the YRI offers technical research training, mentorship, ethical research guidance, and support for scholarly publications.

    Over time, YRI has expanded its collaborations with local, regional, and international research institutions that share a commitment to strengthening justice, democracy, and the rule of law in Myanmar. Through virtual initiatives, the YRI upholds its role as a cornerstone for academic advancement and critical engagement in legal and social science research.
